Wisdom is the one who gave Ricky the gun, which caused a whole lot more of trouble. He is set on getting Ricky to join him back into crime, has took a punch for him, and insults him about the thought of doing a mediocre job – as he gets Ricky more and more into crime, he manages him to join him, both as his ‘brethren’ and his backup. Wisdom: Wisdom has been influenced by crime, to the point where he doesn’t know any better. Ricky: Ricky has been highly influenced by crime as at the beginning of the film, he has just come out of prison, showing that he has been affected by crime before we ever have the chance to get to know the character.

Apfilmnoir2016 Tagged British film, bullet boy, Ken Loach, Saul Dibb, sweet sixteen Leave a comment How far are the key characters in the films you’ve studied trapped by crime? British film, bullet boy, exam prep, sweet sixteen I would pick the scene in which Liam gets into a fight, as it shows the drug side of the community and really emphasises how many people are actually involved. I would then go on to show a scene later on in the film, showing the drug dealing and crime side of the film and how it impacts the community. The adults swear much more than Liam and his friends and the person who swears the most in this scene is actually a Police Officer. Both of these scenes show daily life within the community of Greenock, one of which shows that people will do anything to make a living or at least some amount of money and the other shows childish humour but also gives an insight to what some of the people are like. People are both aware of what is going around them, but don’t exactly have the intention of getting involved.Ī scene I would chose as a representative would be one of the beginning films – either where Liam and Pinball are selling ‘cheap fags’ in the pub or the scene where Liam, Pinball and their other friend steal the police officers hat. It is a representative of the community Ricky live in. It seems as if this happens often, and in a way, the background characters are watching from a distance, because they know this kind of thing happens often. From this scene, we get both a look at the environment the characters are living in and a further insight to the characters. The scene I would choose, that I personally feel that represents the community, is the scene where Wisdom and Ricky are smashing up the car and people from flat are watch below.

Shows their background – grown up togetherįorms a further allegiance with the characters – important for both Liam and Chantelle as characters No music or sounds – forces you to listen to Chantelle Show of him on the top of the stairs, looks very powerful and capable of violence We learn that Liam doesn’t back down – shows his desperation, doesn’t really care what happens to him. Narrative: latches onto the idea of the caravan Emphasises the message of poverty often leads to crime. Tries to get us to form an allegiance with Liam – we see a kid who loves his mum. Subjective narrative, we only know what Liam knows, making the reveal more shocking. We worry about the characters and it forms a bigger allegiance.

No swearing – characters look a lot happierĮven know it is a happy scene, there is a piece of suspense, wondering if Liam and Pinball will get the money or not. Staging: got his family together, the dream he’s always wanted. Mise en scene: brighter than the diegesis in Greenock, emphasises positivity and happiness Cause- effect chain: Liam is achieving his dream.
